Pilar de la Horadada is a municipality in the south of the province of Alicante bordering the Murcia region, bordering- with San Pedro del Pinatar.
Remains have been found in Pilar de la Horadada from Roman times, Thiar being a stopping point on the Via Augusta between Cartago Nova y Illici.

The coastal area of Pilar de la Horadada, is called Torre de la Horadada, here is a 16th century tower.
The Tower
The Torre Vigía belonged to the coastal surveillance system of Felipe II, and was built in 1591 on a previous tower.It is a Monument of Cultural Interest under the protection of the generic Declaration of the Decree of April 22, 1949, and Law 16/1985 on Spanish Historical Heritage.
It marked the traditional southern limit of the Kingdom of Valencia, and during the 19th century it was used to make signals with the optical telegraph.
Torre de la Horadada is a few minutes by car from the centre of Pilar de la Horadada, it is surrounded by modern urbanizations such as Pueblo Latino, Mil Palmeras, El Mojón.

Torre de la Horadada is a residential area, very quiet to enjoy the beach, its marina and five minutes by car is the Lo Romero Golf Course.
For nature lovers, in a few minutes by car this Sierra Escalona is a ZEPA (Special Protection Area for Birds) where we can find diurnal raptors and nocturnal, such as the buzzard (Buteo buteo), the European short-toed (Circaetus gallicus), and the European goshawk (Accipiter gentilis). Among the nocturnal birds of prey, we have the Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo) with more than 100 specimens, the Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) and Bonelli’s Eagle (Aquila fasciata). There are also other species of mammals y reptiles.
In the interior of Pilar de la Horadada, we have one of the oldest urbanizations called Campoverde, it is 10 minutes by car from the centre of Pilar de la Horadada, passing through the field of Lo Romero Golf. Within the urbanizacion we have all the services, shops, bars, restaurants, … and one day a week there is a market.
